Moderated by Jeffrey Wilson, Ph.D. Associate Dean of the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts

In 2011, the federally-funded National Institutes of Health (NIH) commissioned a study by the Institute of Medicine that reported lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) populations experience unique health disparities which are shaped by social and historical influences. Our panel of scholars and practitioners will address current trends and research findings about LGBT populations. Adam Fingerhut, Assistant Professor at LMU, will discuss issues of gay and lesbian mental health, Sue LaVaccare from the Children's Hospital Los Angeles, will be addressing young, same-sex identified women's health concerns, and Dr. Elise Turen will speak on physical and mental health concerns of transgender individuals.
