Artificial Intelligence—the programming of a computer with complex algorithms that enable it to perform difficult cognitive tasks—is becoming increasingly more prevalent in business. It’s depiction in popular culture has given it a negative connotation that the general public associates with dystopia and apocalyptic scenarios where humans are irrelevant. While this representation of Artificial Intelligence is extremely futuristic and arguably unlikely, the risk that Artificial Intelligence may pose to human labor is an important aspect to acknowledge and study. Along with the risk of displacement, Artificial Intelligence brings the possibility of new job roles being created. We can always ponder what will happen in the future with no exact and clear of an answer, but we can definitely study what is actually happening at the present moment. And it is important to study how AI implemented at scale is affecting companies and their jobs.
