Description

The purpose of this research is to enhance the findings on music therapy and children with autism. Existing research examines the benefits to using music therapy as a tool for children with autism, however there is very limited research on the levels of the autism spectrum and its relationship to the types of music therapy. Researchers will travel to different music therapy education centers throughout the state of California and work with children with autism who attend these centers. Researchers will test various types of music therapy, ranging from children listening and dancing along with music to teaching children how to play various instruments and vocalize. The expected results of this research are to find the most effective music therapy technique for children who are diagnosed on each level of the autism spectrum disorder and to make music therapy sessions more effective overall.
