Did you know that 1.2 billion people - one fifth of the world's population - are currently living in poverty? Did you know that one in seven people go to bed hungry each night? Malnutrition is the leading cause of child mortality, accounting for one-third of all deaths in children under age five. Hunger can lead to diminished concentration, impaired ability to learn, chronic health conditions, increased susceptibility to infection, and poor recovery from illness. Hunger does not only affect people in underdeveloped nations, in fact, there are more than 44 million Americans who struggle with hunger. Participating in the Hunger Banquet helped attendees experience world hunger and begin to grasp the immense effect that poverty has on the world's population. Join us in aiding this cause for social justice. A $2 donation was suggested and proceeds from this event were donated to Oxfam America, an international relief and development organization that creates lasting solutions to poverty, hunger, and injustice.
