Abstract
In the wake of the worst years of the COVID pandemic, we reflect on film industries’ challenges during the Influenza Pandemic of 1918 in this epilogue. We turn our eyes to Hollywood as an example, as the European film industries were already so profoundly disrupted by World War I. At the time, Adolf Zukor and the Famous Players-Lasky managed the crisis by amassing theaters and building a chain production-distribution-exhibition system. It would become the economic model for vertical integration in Hollywood.
