Description
Liberation theology is a POC-lead movement that seeks to reclaim Christianity, culturally dominated by oppressive, white colonizers, and fight for the socio-political economic liberation of POC. The field of Queer Studies defines queerness as anti-cisheteropatrarichal, anti-capitalist, and anti-American. Queerness seeks to dismantle and liberate people from what we define as sex, attraction, and gender, and while Liberation Theology fights for the same things as well, they both can offer one another many unique perspectives.
In my project, I will draw parallels and name contradictions of the intersection of Queer Studies and Liberation Theology. Specifically, what does Queer Trans People of Color (QTPOC) perspectives in Liberation Theology have to offer? How can this school of thought translate this into Praxis? Or vice versa?
