Description

How do the TV shows we watch reflect the culture we exist in? How does our discussion on such entertainment influence our understanding of the culture we exist in? How do our discussions show the truth of the culture we exist in? This proposal explores these questions within the following research question: Are rape scenes necessary in television within a rape culture and how does social media discourse affect this question? In answering this question, I will analyze works including Game of Thrones, Bridgerton, 13 Reasons Why, and Euphoria and the social media discourse which surrounds these television shows. With a deeper understanding of the impact of the media we consume, we can consume our media to improve to improve the culture we exist in.
