Description

Creativity seems to be an important skill in physics, but it is poorly understood. This means it is difficult to teach or develop creative skills. By surveying students and faculty in the Seaver College of Science and Engineering and in the College of Communication and Fine Arts I hope to find a working definition of creativity. This survey will include a combination of Likert-type questions and short answer questions in order to get a sufficient understanding of participants' definitions of creativity. They will be asked demographic questions, questions about their definition of creativity, and questions about their usage of creativity. I will also analyze the similarities and differences in the ways creativity is used across the different disciplines I collect data from. This definition will advance the study of physics education by creating a tool that can be used to conduct further research into the relationships between physics and creativity.
