Abstract
With the increasing democratization of imaging & cinematography techniques, deciding upon informed placement of exposure index has become a sometimes automatic decision made by digital equipment. This article delves into the perceptual aspects of exposure indexing, minding the subjective interpretations of image making. By analyzing the placement of exposure index on film negative and digital cinema sensors, the interplay between technical necessity and creative expression become evident in order to allow an image maker to author unique, story-driven photography.
