Abstract
I decided to illustrate this piece after learning that the 1928 design of Mickey Mouse was entering the public domain on January 1, 2024. I wanted to interpret this version of the design in a way that felt personal to me, so I drew it in a way that I have never seen before – from a high angle and raising a fist. Comic parody has been common within the media, but I wanted to create an image that was more empowering. I wanted to craft an illustration that is rebellious, cool, and weird.
