Tiersma Collection
The images in this gallery are from the donated collection of Peter M. Tiersma. Peter Tiersma was one of the nation's leading scholars of law and language. He created an online institute, LANGUAGEandLAW.org, devoted to the study of all the ways in which language and the law intersect. This collection contains legal texts from throughout the ages. Our understanding of these documents continues to evolve, and we are still studying and learning more about the history of the documents in the collection. Our goal is to promote ongoing scholarship and further Peter Tiersma's pioneering work for future generations.
