Event Photographs

Our 2017 Women’s Voices event explored the lives and personal narratives of women from late Imperial China. Yanjie Wang, Assistant Professor of Asian and Asian American Studies, set the stage for understanding Chinese women’s experiences during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and introduced three diverse women’s voices performed by LMU Theatre Arts students through dramatic reading. Student performances were directed by Kevin Wetmore, Professor and Chair of Theatre Arts. The voices will included: a matriarch, a peddler, a reformer.

The cast:

  • Gu Ruopu: Seanna Duon
  • Ning Lao Tai Tai: Natasha Aquin
  • Zeng Yi: Bella Asali

Charlotte D’Evelyn (Visiting Professor of Asian and Asian American Studies) gave a short performance of Erhu (Chinese two-string violin) at the beginning of the event as guests were taking their seats. The event took place on March 1, 2017 in the library's Von der Ahe Family Suite and was recorded.
