Abstract
For many years Alonzo King and his company, Alonzo King's LINES Ballet, have worked with artists from around the world to present non-Western traditions alongside provocative ballet choreography. Arguing that LINES has forged a uniquely global identity through strategies of syncretism, this essay explores King's process and choreography in five ballets: Lila, The People of the Forest, Koto, Before the Blues, and Long River, High Sky. King's ballets encourage cross-cultural dialogue about identity, spirituality, and human interconnectedness.
