Abstract
Set within a home during a series of unsettling events inspired by the biblical plagues of Egypt, the film follows the conflict between Lucy, a young woman who has distanced herself from the church, and her devout mother who becomes convinced that the tenth plague will take the person she loves most: her daughter. I wanted to tell a story that takes a neutral stance on faith, analyzing more what people do when they are scared of what God or divinity will allow to happen to them. The mother and daughter of my story – Fatima and Lucy– depict two sides of faith: one displaying obedience through fear of God and the other, rebellion drawn from anger at God. This film speaks on how often religion can make us feel so small and sometimes induce fear within us more than hope.
