Abstract
Some core values of Jainism, which originated in India as early as the sixth century BCE, lend themselves to sus- tainability, especially the focus on a living and eternal uni- verse, the minimal use of natural resources, and ahimsa (nonviolence). The Jaina in India today, despite their small number, have the potential to advocate for change in environmental practices and policies.
