Abstract
Marina Babigian’s compelling graphic story, Escape, portrays the journey of a young girl as she tries to escape her demons: anxiety, insecurity, and depression. One step at a time, she confronts obstacles, learns coping strategies and emerges a more whole person. Marina’s artwork is done in micron pen and watercolors, and then composed digitally to create an illustrative scrapbook theme. The themes in the artwork reflect the nature of the demons the girl faces, utilizing whimsical means of transportation to show her strength at each stage of her journey. Marina’s story was written for Alexandra Neel’s First Year Seminar Class: Graphic Stories, fall 2015.
